Dr. John Painter
Dr. John Painter began his training in 1957 under the tutelage of a Chinese master of Daoqiquan. In 1968 he was awarded the title of Shifu, instructor, of Daoqiquan arts. He is a Ph.D. in Naturopathic medicine and is listed in Who's Who in Chinese Martial Arts. Dr. Painter has been elected three times to the Inside Kung Fu magazine Hall of Fame. Dr. Painter is a Captain in the American Rangers Law Enforcement Martial Training Institute. Captain Painter is considered one of the world's foremost experts in practical, no nonsense hand to hand combat training. His private client list includes members of the Israeli military combat training corp., FBI, DEA, US Army Rangers, US Army Special Forces, and US marine Military Police Officers. In 1973, Dr. John Painter founded The Gompa (place of quiet study) which offers a complete program of instruction in Chinese internal style arts for stress management, health, fitness and self-protection. The reason for creating such a place was to provide an intimate setting for a personal learning experience. The Center specializes in the arts of the Daoqiquan internal system of the Li family from Sichuan Province. The Gompa enjoys an international reputation complete with a qualified staff of certified instructors on hand to help you learn the internal art of your choice. Classes are offered for small groups or private instruction. Classes are offered during the week and on Saturday. Their study group programs in Daoqiquan arts are presented throughout North American And Europe. The Gompa offers authentic traditional internal Chinese and Tibetan healing, philosophical and martial art methods. Also offered is full courses in Acupressure, Meditation, Philosophy, Yijing, Daoism, Tibetan Yoga, and Chinese Qigong for health. Traditional Chinese martial arts offered include Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, Tibetan Snake boxing, traditional combat weapons training and modern self defense methods as divised by the Li family of Sichuan Province near the famous Emei Mountain.
